Ok I don't want to cry wolf...I know I know I already said I wanted a transfer to killing joke. But do you think I could run off to nashville and become a psychohillybilly punk on the side?
The crazy gang of misfits that is th'Legendary Shackshakers of Nashville Tennessee rolled into town in the robert plant caravan of strange sensations, and invited yours truly to bring a little fiddle action into the mix for the Hammersmith Palais show...
So yeah it was all hobnailed hoedowns, fullsteam polkas, murder ballads and frenetic jailbreak music driven along with slaptastic bass. & boyohboy what a kick! especially facing-off on stage with country geeetar legend and uber-illustrated man david lee....but, ladies and gentlemen, he didn't intimidate me even in the wifebeater with all the tatts on show and his expression contorted to the sneariest punk snarl in the book. Oh no.
All the time, the Colonel JD was frontflipping, swaggering, jigging on his tippytoes, brandishing a sword, showering the audience in spit, ranting like an old-school preacher and ripping it up on the diatonic harmonica. Barechested in lederhosen. Really.
Robert Plant was pretty darn good too. The voice is amazing.
Incidentally, snuck off with shackies to see another crazed frontman (jd's doppel) Hutz and his gogol bordellos on Saturday night.... Lunatic. Genius. Sergei the violinist is quite simply ME with a BEARD...strange to have a doppelganger who's a russian gypsy punk, with a long silvery mane. Good though. He ROCKS. There's talk of a GOGOL BORDELLO / LEGENDARY SHACKSHAKERS double bill across the US... I'm definitely stowing away in the tourbus for that one! - so if I go missing that's where I'll be.
